Deploying Notes App using Flask with a classic mistake
S
Hi! I’m Muhammad Subhan Arif, a student based in Faisalabad with a passion for cloud infrastructure and platform engineering. I started this blog to document my path toward becoming a Cloud Engineer.

πŸ“ Building a Notes App (And Learning a Valuable Lesson)

As part of my journey learning Bash scripting for cloud engineering, I built a simple Notes app and published it to GitHub. My goal was to automate the deployment of the app using a Bash script alongside an HTML frontend.

πŸš€ What Happened

  • I found an HTML template online and started building on top of it.
  • Without testing the original repository first, I jumped straight into automating the deployment.
  • After troubleshooting a few deployment issues, I finally got the app running.
  • That's when I realized the template was far too basic for what I wanted to build.
  • I ended up rewriting the HTML and creating a more advanced version to better match my goals.

πŸ’‘ Biggest Takeaway

  • Always test and verify an external repository before building on top of it.
  • Spending a few minutes validating the starting point can save hours of debugging and unnecessary rewrites later.
